Rose and Rik Lawhorne are hosting the May 6, 2012 meeting for Virginia Independent Consumers and Farmers Association at their home; 107 Oak Crest Dr., Patlow, Va. 22534, with the public and members invited. A pot luck lunch starts the business meeting at 1:00 with the open meeting following at 2:00. VICFA, a non-profit, volunteer association, promotes direct, unregulated trade between farmers and consumers, our food heritage restored. Come out to enjoy good food and fellowship and learn what you can do to improve this relationship. Understand what you need to know about your soils, what tests to do, and what resources are out there. Starting a New Farm in a Baltimore Neighborhood Listen to farmers and community leaders describe some of the joys and challenges of building a new urban farm. Also learn more about the city's food deserts and what that means for urban farms. Learn about how to get your neighbors excited and involved while addressing concerns that may arise. This event attracts a targeted market of a sustainably-minded audience. This is the third year for the Solar and Wind Expo at the Timonium Fair Grounds and has more than 4,000 attendees. Grass-fed farmers, and organic and low input fruits and vegetable producers are welcome to showcase and sell their products.
